Description

Beatrix Potter and the Lake District

Beatrix purchased a considerable amount of land in the Lake District and was advised by local solicitor William Heelis who she met in Hawkshead and later married. She and William lived in Castle Cottage, Near Sawrey, from 1913 until her death.

Yew Tree Farm near Coniston was once owned by Beatrix Potter and also starred as the location of her home, Hilltop, in the film ‘Miss Potter’. In 1929, when Beatrix Potter was 64 years old, the Monk Coniston estate came up for sale. The estate consisted of 2500 acres of land around the head of Coniston Water.

Helen Beatrix Potter was an English writer, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist. She is best known for her children’s books.
