About Langdale Pikes:
The Langdale Pikes: Pavey Ark, Thunacar Knott, Pike of Stickle, Harrison Stickle. Seen from the surrounding hills Pike of Stickle is an instantly identifiable lump on the high ground above Langdale.
At 2,415 feet (736 m), Harrison Stickle is the highest of the Langdale Pikes, and is also the most dominant visually.
Although steep, with a total of 870 meters of ascent, the Langdale Pike trail from New Dungeon Ghyll is short and not technically difficult. It has the benefit of getting up close to the towering face of Pavey Ark, but without the tricky scramble up Jack’s Rake
History. Great Langdale is known to archaeologists as the source of a particular type of Neolithic polished stone axe head, created on the slopes of the Pike of Stickle and traded all over prehistoric Great Britain and Europe. It also supplied stone for some Bronze Age items, including stone wrist-guards.
